Chamber of Copernican Award Laureates

The Chamber of Copernican Award Laureates plays a particularly important role in the activities of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy. The award recipients are Members of the Academy and, in that capacity, contribute to its core missions. On the other hand, the outstanding, groundbreaking achievements of the Copernican Award Laureates—often of international significance—enhance the Academy’s ability to foster interdisciplinary and global research projects, as well as to support the education of young scientists.
The Chamber of Copernican Award Laureates will be officially established once ten individuals have received the award. Until that time, scientists honored with the Copernican Award serve as Members of the Academy within its thematic chambers. For this reason, the first Copernican Award laureates from 2022—Barry Barish (USA) from the California Institute of Technology and James E. B. Peebles (USA) from Princeton University—are Members of the Chamber of Astronomy and Natural and Mathematical Sciences.

Retired Members of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy

Membership in the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy ends upon reaching the age of 80. The Academy proudly honors its former Members who contributed to its development prior to reaching this age.
