Primary School No. 1 named after Nicolaus Copernicus in Lidzbark Warmiński
Primary School No. 1 named after Nicolaus Copernicus in Lidzbark Warmiński was established from the centuries-old tradition of a parish school established in Warmia in accordance with the recommendation of Pope Gregory IX (1227-1241). Every parish priest was obliged to appoint a cleric to assist in performing liturgicalieties and to run a school. The Lidzbark parish was established shortly after the end of the wars with Prussia, and it was first mentioned in 1305 (parish priest Heinemann). The establishment of the school is hypothetically dated to the first quarter of the 14th century. In Warmia, only cathedral schools in Frombork and Glotów – Dobre Miasto were established earlier. The Latin school in Lidzbark was managed by the parish priest, who supervised the teachers and made staff transfers. The school provided the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic, church singing and teaching the trivium, i.e. grammar, rhetoric and dialectics. These sciences, from which the negative term “trivial” is derived today, provided the basics of knowledge of the language of science – Latin, taught logical thinking and the art of discussion. In Lidzbark, special attention was paid to teaching church singing. Greek was also introduced. (…)
Until the end of the 18th century, graduates of the Lidzbark school were students of renowned European universities.

Kazimierz Jagiellończyk Secondary School in Lidzbark Warmiński
The school was established on September 1, 1945 under the name of the State Coeducational Secondary School in Lidzbark Warmiński, located at ul. Orła Białego 5 in Lidzbark Warmiński. The first principal Leon Sienkiewicz was the initiator of the school establishment. In 1947, the first secondary school leaving exam was held there in the evening school for adults (with 18 graduates taking it). It was not until 1966 that the General Secondary School in Lidzbark Warmiński was named after Kazimierz Jagiellończyk, and on September 1, 1980, it was also granted the honorary title of Grunwald School.
