The Copernican Academy acquired two editions of the Bible – from 1561 and 1599. The first was compiled by Jan Leopolita, the second by Jakub Wujek.
Two antique copies of the Bible – both dating from the second half of the 16th century – were acquired from the collection of the Religious Congregation of the Little Work of Divine Providence – Orionists of the Polish Province.
The first book “Biblia to iest. Kxięgi Starego y Nowego Zakonu, na Polski i język z pilnością według Lacińskiey Bibliey, od Kościeioła Krześcijańskiego powszechnego przyięthey: nowo wyłożona” (“The Books of the Old and New Order, into the Polish language with diligence according to the Latin Bible, from the Universal Christian Church: newly arranged”) was published by Jakub Wujek’s teacher – Jan Leopolita (publisher, translator), by Mikołaj Szarfenberger (author of the dedication, printer) in Kraków, in the Szarfenbergs’ printing house in 1561.
The second book is the “Bible, i.e. the books of the Old and New Testaments according to an old Latin translation accepted by the universal church and translated into the Oolian language by D. Iakub Wvyk of Wągrowiec […]”, published by Jakub Wujek (translator) and Stanisław Karnkowski (author of the preface) in Kraków at the Łazarz Printing House in 1599.
