Winners of the International Economics Olympiad Visit Nicolaus Copernicus Academy

November 4, 2025

On October 17, 2025, Nicolaus Copernicus Academy in Warsaw hosted the winners of the International Economics Olympiad. On behalf of the Acting Secretary General, Prof. Krzysztof M. Górski, participants were welcomed by Prof. Marek Sarna, a member of the Academy’s Chamber of Astronomy and Mathematical-Physical Sciences and former president of the Polish Astronomical Society.

The meeting brought together Ewa Trybuchowicz, Director of the Board Office of the Polish Economic Society (PTE), and four Olympiad medalists: Antoni Pokora, Jakub Zalewski, Zuzanna Augustyniak, and Paweł Czermański. Szymon Jackowski could not attend in person due to studies abroad, but a congratulatory letter and a gift were sent to him via the PTE.

During the discussions, the young economists shared why they chose this field. Some saw economics as a gateway to their dream studies, others as a path into business—two of the winners already run their own companies successfully despite their young age. For many, economics combines a passion for mathematics, computer science, and practical applications of knowledge. They emphasized that preparing for the Olympiad required significant effort, as the material often exceeds standard school curricula, and they greatly valued guidance from older, experienced Olympians.

Prof. Marek Sarna invited the winners to a discussion about this year’s Nobel Prize in Economics, asking them to reflect on the concept of creative destruction in the context of sustainable development.

The event unfolded in a warm and inspiring atmosphere. The students’ passion, knowledge, and energy were evident as they spoke with maturity about their plans, studies, and early professional experiences.

In a letter to the winners, Prof. Dariusz Tworzydło, a member of the Academy’s Chamber of Economic and Management Sciences and a former Economics Knowledge Olympiad finalist, reminded them that participation in the Olympiad can be “a turning point in life that teaches courage, cooperation, and confidence in one’s abilities.”

Ewa Trybuchowicz highlighted that the success of this year’s Polish team reflects the high quality of education and the dedication of young people. She encouraged the winners to apply their knowledge and skills not only for personal development but also for the benefit of others and the country.

The meeting at Nicolaus Copernicus Academy celebrated the students’ achievements while also fostering a discussion about passion, ambition, and future opportunities.

We congratulate all the winners once again and wish them continued success in their academic and professional journeys!
