The Solemn Session of the Council of the Faculty of Medicine and the Councils of Colleges of Sciences of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences, on May 22nd, 2026, hosted a ceremony awarding the most prestigious academic honour – the title of doctor honoris causa – to Prof. Adam Dziki, for his exceptional contribution to the development of the fields of general and colorectal surgery, as well as his scientific, clinical, and educational work.
The event exceptionally dignified event was one of the most crucial days of the University’s academic year.
In a comment given to the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy after the event, Professor Adam Dziki underscored the importance of the received honour:
“It is somewhat difficult for me to talk about myself. An honoris causa doctorate is the dream of every scientist and probably the pinnacle of the academic path. Of course, I am extraordinarily happy that the Poznań University of Medical Sciences – such a prestigious institution – granted me this title. It is worth noting that the first person in the history of this University to have received the honour was Maria Skłodowska-Curie.
I am proud to have been the promoter of 32 doctorates, 5 habilitations, and two professoriates. Sixteen of my assistants became directors of surgical units, so I can say, immodestly, that I have created my own school of Polish surgery when it comes to the number of honorary memberships in international scientific societies.”

During the event, the Rector of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences, Prof. Zbigniew Krasiński, highlighted the laureate’s exceptionally important position in the medical community:
“Important for the development of medicine are not only inventions but also masters – medics who are able to combine science, responsibility, and humanism. I am convinced, as are many others, that one such person is Professor Adam Dziki.”

“It is precisely universities such as this one that build the safety of health in this country. The implementation of innovations and the care for the quality of education are not just academic pursuits. They are activities of direct importance to patients.
I also want to recognize the newest achievements of the university. I most sincerely congratulate Professor Adam Dziki on receiving the title of doctor honoris causa of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences.”― Viceminister of Health, Katarzyna Kęcka

The community of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy, within which the laureate is included, is proud of Prof. Adam Dziki’s recognition as doctor honoris causa. This prestigious honour confirms the position of importance held by Professor Dziki within the Polish and international medical communities, and constitutes an acknowledgement of his yearslong scientific, clinical, and educational work.
