The second day of the World Copernican Congress opened with a presentation by one of the Nobel Laureates present at the event, Professor Barry C. Barish.
Honoured with the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics. Prof Barry Barish gave a lecture in which he discussed the issue of gravitational waves and directions for further research in this field.
The scientist argued that through the use of advanced technology, within the next ten years scientists will be able to work with gravitational waves in a much more precise way.
The Nobel laureate also expressed his thanks to the organisers of the Congress for inviting him to the event. He pointed out that although this is not his first stay in Poland, it is the first time he has visited the home town of Nicolaus Copernicus. – ‘I am happy to be here with you to celebrate the anniversary of a scientist I knew from a young age, before I became a scientist myself,’ Prof Barish said.
