In July 2025, Australia hosted the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), where the Polish team won six medals and finished fourth in the national ranking, tied with Japan.

Organizers awarded 67 gold, 103 silver, and 145 bronze medals during the closing ceremony, and they granted honorable mentions to 132 participants. According to the IMO’s official website, 630 students from 110 countries competed in this year’s event, including 69 girls.

Only three teams: China, the USA, and South Korea scored higher than Poland. The Polish students outperformed strong competitors such as India and Australia, countries known for their intensive support of Olympiad participants.

Individual results for Polish students: 🥇 Stanisław Lada – XIV High School in Warsaw – 35 points, gold medal
🥇 Magdalena Pudełko – V High School in Kraków – 35 points, gold medal
🥇 Jakub Świcarz – XIV High School in Warsaw – 35 points, gold medal
🥈 Mateusz Wawrzyniak – Academic High School of Wrocław University of Science and    Technology – 31 points, silver medal
🥈 Michał Wolny – XIV High School in Warsaw – 30 points, silver medal
🥈 Antoni Mazur – V High School in Kraków – 30 points, silver medal

This year, Magdalena Pudełko made history by winning the first gold medal ever earned by a Polish woman at the IMO. Her achievement marks an important milestone not only in her personal career but also in Poland’s history of international student science competitions.

Michał Wolny also delivered an outstanding performance. At just 16 years old, he earned two international medals within two weeks: a silver in mathematics in Australia and a gold in informatics in Bolivia.

We congratulate the entire Polish team and their coaches, Dr. Dominik Burek and Dr. Tomasz Cieśla, on this exceptional achievement, which clearly demonstrates the strength of Polish science.
