Office of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy

The Office of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy provides administrative and organizational support for the Academy’s operations. It is managed by the Director of the Office, who is appointed through a competitive process by the Secretary General. The Director serves a four-year term and may be reappointed for no more than two consecutive terms.

Director of the Office of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy

The Office is led by a Director appointed in accordance with the Act on the Copernican Academy of April 28, 2022 (Journal of Laws 2022, item 1459).
Key responsibilities of the Director include:

Managing the daily operations of the Office

Organizing the functioning of the Academy’s governing bodies

3

Providing financial, administrative, and logistical support to the Academy

4

Ensuring compliance with public finance regulations and authorized expenditure limits

5

Overseeing the proper management of the Academy’s assets

6

Administering the Academy’s financial resources in line with the operational and financial plan

7

Preparing the Academy’s annual financial plan draft

8

Ensuring the proper operation of the Academy’s technical, IT, and telecommunications infrastructure

9

Establishing and maintaining systems for classified information processing, personal data protection, and workplace safety and hygiene

10

Performing internal control duties

Supervising the preparation of internal legal documents within the Office

Coordinating the Academy’s international cooperation activities

Assoc. Prof. Witold Mazurek, PhD

Professor at the Ignatianum Academy in Kraków. Prof. Witold Mazurek holds a postdoctoral degree (habilitacja) in the field of security studies and serves as a professor at the Ignatianum Academy in Kraków. He is a graduate of the Pedagogical University of Kraków, completed postgraduate studies at the University of Warsaw, and earned an MBA from the University of Social Sciences in Łódź.

He obtained his PhD from the University of Natural Sciences and Humanities in Siedlce and his habilitation from the Police Academy in Szczytno. He also completed an internship at the National Security Bureau.
Prof. Mazurek began his uniformed service career after passing the officer exam at the Land Forces Military Academy in Poznań. In 2002, he joined the Prison Service, completing the Officer School of the Prison Service. From 2007 to 2015, he served as an officer in the Internal Security Agency. Since 2015, he has been working in the Military Counterintelligence Service. In 2016, he was seconded to serve as Head of the Prison Service Division at the Ministry of Justice.

In February 2022, he was awarded the Medal of the Commission of National Education for his outstanding contributions to education and upbringing. In September 2022, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Education and Science.
