On October 22, 2025, Matthias De Moor, the General Representative of Flanders to Poland and the Baltic States, met with the Acting Secretary General of Nicolaus Copernicus Academy.
The meeting, initiated by the guests, aimed to introduce the Academy’s activities more closely and discuss potential avenues for cooperation with the Flemish Region. Dr. hab. Witold Mazurek represented the Academy, while Tijs Verstraete, Policy Spokesperson, joined on behalf of the Flanders Representation.
Before a courtesy exchange of gifts, Prof. Krzysztof Górski outlined the Academy’s achievements to date and presented a range of possible collaboration opportunities for Flemish researchers and institutions, particularly in scientific debate and knowledge exchange. He highlighted special interest in the participation of Flemish scientists in the upcoming 2nd Copernican World Congress, scheduled for February 19–21, 2028. Matthias De Moor mentioned, among other projects, the Einstein Telescope, designed to study gravitational waves using kilometer-long tunnels and protons—a topic currently attracting interest from numerous European stakeholders.
Nicolaus Copernicus Academy expressed strong interest in continuing discussions to expand scientific dialogue between the members of the Chamber of Astronomy and Mathematical-Natural Sciences, Polish researchers, and potential partners from Flanders.
