Inauguration of the Academic Year at the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School Warsaw

Today, the solemn inauguration of the academic year took place at the Nicolaus Copernicus Superior School (SGMK). The guest of honor was the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, who delivered the inaugural speech to the academic community, students, and invited guests.
The ceremony was attended by: Prof. Gertruda Uściska – Her Magnificence, Rector of SGMK, Prof. Przemysław Czarnek – former Minister of Education and Science, Deans of SGMK, Prof. Krzysztof M. Górski – Secretary General of the Copernican Academy, and rectors of other academic institutions.

Her Magnificence, the Rector of SGMK, stated:
„”Our university is a place where tradition meets modernity, and interdisciplinarity and international character form the foundation of our activity. We look to the future, making efforts to fulfill the primary task of science, which is the pursuit and acknowledgment of truth. […] Together, we create a place that promotes Copernican ideas worldwide, utilizing the latest resources and scientific achievements.”

President Andrzej Duda thanked everyone gathered for “co-creating a unique academic environment distinguished by its interdisciplinarity and international character.”
He then added:
„At the school named after Nicolaus Copernicus, you follow the path laid out by your patron: humble before the world, yet striving to uncover all its mysteries. […] I wish you the courage and persistence in research that contribute to the advancement of science, and undoubtedly, to the development of the university.”

In his speech, the President also referred to the role of SGMK and the Copernican Academy:
„Care for the homeland characterizes the Superior School named after Nicolaus Copernicus, as well as the Copernican Academy project focused on creating developmental impulses for Polish science.”
In conclusion, the President emphasized that the Copernican Academy and the school are fulfilling tasks crucial for Polish science, and they can count on his unwavering support. He also noted that Polish science requires development, energy, and a bold vision for the future.

The final part of the ceremony was the inaugural lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Krystian Jażdżewski, Professor of medicine, titled “Cancer / Oncological Prevention in the Genomic Era.”
