On the 14th of April, 2026, an agreement was signed establishing ongoing cooperation between the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy and the Silesian Planetarium, at the latter institution’s grounds.
The document was signed by Planetarium Director Stefan Janta and the Academy’s Secretary General, Prof. Krzysztof Marian Górski.

Director Janta presented numerous programmes from the Planetarium’s calendar which, thanks to the observatory’s excellent facilities, offer extensive opportunities for combining theory with observational practice. These programmes have great potential to attract both the local community as well as audiences from outside the region. Moreover, their appeal could be further enhanced through the involvement of members of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy from the Chamber of Astronomy and Mathematical-Natural Sciences.

It is worth noting that the signed agreement represents a continuation of the existing cooperation between the two institutions. In 2023, the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy partnered with the Nicolaus Copernicus Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory in Chorzów to organise the 16th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA), providing financial support and participating in the organisational activities. Yesterday’s agreement lays the foundation for new joint educational and science outreach projects, to which we are very much looking forward.
