Delegates from Taiwan’s national academic institution, Academia Sinica, and the Taipei Office in Poland, with representatives of the Copernican Academy and the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Tomasz Rzymkowski, discussed scientific cooperation, exchange of experiences and joint plans.
On the occasion of their visit to Poland, representatives of the Taiwanese national academic institution Academia Sinica met on 21 July in Warsaw with the Secretary General of the academy, Professor Krzysztof Górski, PhD, and the plenipotentiary for the development and internationalisation of education and science, Deputy Minister Tomasz Rzymkowski, representing the Polish government.
Academia Sinica currently has 24 institutes and 8 research centres operating within the scope of three areas: Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The institution collaborates with research centres around the world, implementing cooperation agreements with 57 countries and 608 national and international research institutes.
In recent years, Academia Sinica has achieved important results in research in biomedicine, biology, physics, structural biology, astrophysics, information science and history, sinology and social sciences.
Discussions on science and research cooperation
During the meeting in Warsaw, Academia Sinica delegates discussed research cooperation, support for young scientists and the exchange of ideas that leads to breakthroughs in science with representatives of the Copernican Academy.
From the side of Academia Sinica, the talks were attended, among others, by the institution’s president Dr James C. Liao, a specialist and pioneer in metabolic engineering, synthetic biology and systems biology, and Dr Kay-Hooi Khoo, a specialist in biological chemistry and executive secretary of the institution.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Taipei Office in Poland.
Cooperation between Nicolaus Copernicus University and Taiwan
It may be recalled that in June Director of the Taipei Office in Poland Bob L. J. Chen and the Secretary General of the Copernicus Academy Prof. Dr. Krzysztof Górski signed an agreement under which the Academy received a $3.5 million donation to fund doctoral and post-doctoral scholarships for Ukrainian citizens living and studying in Poland.
Under an agreement between the Taiwanese and Polish authorities, funds donated to the Copernicus Academy will be paid to Ukrainian students wishing to obtain a doctorate or habilitation at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in legal sciences, economic sciences and management.
