Professor Arthur B. McDonald of Canada’s Queen’s University devoted his talk to the topic of particle astrophysics and nuclear physics.
The Nobel laureate noted that there have been significant advances in these fields in recent years and that astrophysics is one of the sciences that can most benefit society.
– Astrophysics is developing very rapidly. Underground laboratories with highly sensitive apparatus make it possible to detect further unknown particles, and Poland is an active participant in this research. All this will allow us to push the boundaries of technological progress,” said Professor McDonald.
During his speech at the World Copernicus Congress, the Nobel Prize winner also spoke about his impressions of his stay in Toruń. – I would like to thank the organisers for inviting me to this beautiful city. My wife said that there was a lot to see here and that she had socks with Copernicus on them for me to remind me of all the wonderful things that have happened here,’ Prof McDonald said.
