On 17 May 2023, the coordinator of the expert department of the Nicolaus Copernicus Research Centre, Prof. Grzegorz Górski, held a conversation in Rome with the President of the Committee on Culture and Heritage, Education, Research and Sport of the Senate of the Italian Republic, Roberto Marti, thus opening a new chapter in Polish-Italian cooperation.
The meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Italian Senate, provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the possibilities for intensifying contacts between Poland and Italy. Among the topics discussed were those concerning challenges and opportunities for cooperation in areas such as education, science and culture.
The meeting with the Italian partners was also attended by representatives of Italian local authorities and, among others, the Vice-President of the Senate.
Concretisation of Plans
Prof. Grzegorz Górski and President Marti strongly emphasised their intention to develop scientific and cultural initiatives including the organisation of events such as conferences, symposia and seminars. Prof. Górski outlined his vision of how the Nicolaus Copernicus Research Centre could contribute to collaboration, presenting plans for future projects and initiatives.
The talks focused on discussing a range of issues related to strengthening relations between the scientific communities of Poland and Italy. One of the outcomes of the meeting is expected to be, among other things, the signing of detailed cooperation agreements, particularly concerning scientific activities, education and culture.
Promoting the country abroad
During the press conference held at the end, Prof. Górski emphasised that for the Copernicus Academy, activities aimed at promoting Polish science and culture abroad, promoting knowledge of Polish history and national heritage around the world are important and always worthwhile.
The meeting confirmed the openness of both sides to continue contacts and to implement the initiatives undertaken. The visit of a delegation from the Copernicus Academy to Rome is an important step towards strengthening Polish-Italian scientific and cultural ties, which will certainly bring benefits to both sides.
