On 7 August, the General Assembly met to decide on the appointment of the rector of Nicolaus Copernicus University. Dr Piotr Turek was appointed as the new rector.
In accordance with Act on the Academy of Copernicus, during the meeting, the members of the General Assembly identified a candidate for the rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus Academy, addressing a request to the Presidium of the AK for his immediate appointment to the post.
On the same day, the Presidium of the Copernican Academy appointed the designated candidate – Dr Piotr Turek – as Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
Dr Piotr Turek holds a PhD in economics from the Warsaw School of Economics. He completed his postgraduate studies in “Strategic Marketing Management” at the Warsaw School of Economics, and his master’s degree in economics at the University of Economics in Katowice. He has completed numerous courses, including at renowned foreign universities: “Leadership and Communication” at Harvard University, “Economics of Money and Banking” at Columbia University, “Financial Markets” at Yale University and “Public Financing Management” conducted by the International Monetary Fund.
From 2021, Dr Turek was Director of the Communication Department at the National Bank of Poland, a member of the NBP Council for Economic Education and a member of the Communication Committee, operating within the European System of Central Banks. He was also an expert of the programme “Development of Creative Sectors” at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
