“Collaboration for university autonomy is crucial because the idea of a university is one of a community, but also independence from current political changes.”

dr Michał Sopiński
Rector of the Academy of Justice

Signing of the agreement between the Academy of Justice and the Copernican Academy for scientific cooperation and internationalization.

The Academy of Justice was represented by the Rector, Dr. Michał Sopiński.
The Copernican Academy was represented, on behalf of the Secretary General of the Copernican Academy, by Dr. hab. Witold Mazurek.

Rector of the Academy of Justice:
“As the Rector of the Academy of Justice, it is my great pleasure to sign today’s agreement for scientific cooperation and internationalization with the Copernican Academy. I believe this agreement will bring mutual benefits to our institutions. The Academy of Justice, as the university of the prison service — the third-largest uniformed service in the country — is on a path of continuous development and internationalization. Our goal is a modern, innovative Polish prison system, and I believe that with the support of the Copernican Academy, we will achieve these goals. I am particularly looking forward to international cooperation, and I believe that the Copernican Academy’s experience in working with leading global partners will help our institution, which is already a member of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) and the European Penitentiary Training Academies (EPTA) within EuroPris (European Organization of Prison and Correctional Services), to expand our educational and scientific offerings. I hope that through joint projects with the Copernican Academy, we can contribute to ensuring that imprisonment in Poland is carried out humanely and in accordance with human rights. I also believe that the prison service officers will lead the way among Poland’s uniformed services.

Director of the Copernican Academy Office:
“Rector, Ladies and Gentlemen, on behalf of the Secretary General of the Copernican Academy, I would like to express our recognition for the journey the Academy of Justice has undertaken. We are very pleased to be part of this group and to jointly promote Polish science and also to internationalize it. It is no secret, and one of our successes, that we count four Nobel laureates among our ranks and have contacts around the world.
Given the difficult situation facing Polish science, it is becoming increasingly challenging to operate, but we cannot abandon our efforts. Once again, thank you for your courage and for enabling this collaboration today. I hope the fruits of this agreement will be seen soon.”

Rector of the Academy of Justice:
“From my perspective, I would add that cooperation for university autonomy is extremely important because the idea of a university is one of a community, but also of independence from current political changes. Our goal is the advancement of science, the enhancement of the potential of Polish science, and the fulfillment of this common task, regardless of the ‘winds of history.’”

Copernican Academy Office:
“It is our dream for Polish science to be depoliticized so that we can operate solely in the realm of science, for the good of the Republic. Therefore, I hope, and I will repeat this once again, that this cooperation will bear fruit, thanks to your commitment.
You educate the third-largest service in the country, a very important service. As I mentioned, we are a nation of 40 million, so I believe that our shared experiences and goals will help accelerate the internationalization of Polish science.”
