On 1 February 2024, representatives of the Copernican Academy met with the city authorities at the Kavala City Hall. The Academy was represented by Prof. Krzysztof M. Gorski, Secretary General, Prof. Witold Mazurek, Office Director and Sebastian Wijas, Deputy Director, while the hosts were Theodoros Mouriadis, Mayor, Panagiotis Angelidis, Deputy Mayor for Development and Tourism and Kyriaki Ganitou, Director of Promotion and Investment. Jerzy Athanasiadis, President of the Polish-Greek Chamber of Industry and Commerce, also attended the meeting.
Discussions included the benefits that the planned cooperation between the Academy and the Municipality of Kawala could bring in the context of the developmental role of the local government in economic, social and cultural matters, especially in the field of tourism.
Ways were also explored for closer cooperation between the Academy and the Municipality of Kawala, which could act as a link for the Academy with higher education institutions in the wider region to further promote research into the life and work of Nicolaus Copernicus.
