On Tuesday 20 June the Royal Castle in Warsaw saw the presentation of the first ever Copernican Prizes – prizes, awarded by the Presidium of the Copernican Academy, which are a form of recognition of the achievements of researchers pushing the boundaries of previous knowledge of mankind.

The first prize winners were astronomer and cosmologist Prof. P. James E. Peebles and physicist Prof. Barry C. Barish.
